Another year is upon us and for myself and many people this signals a brand new opportunity to either press on with current goals or start exciting new ones. 2018 was a year that left me wanting more. More encounters of the mind the body and the soul so I will therefore aim to nurture these sections of me by :
Eating healthier foods
Nope, the steak isn’t going anywhere yet and neither is the chocolate but what I will do is have my family and I eating healthier.
The horse meat scandal of 2013 has made me more and more concerned about food and the journey said food takes to get to my kitchen. Where was the meat/ fruit/ vegetable killed /picked? Was the animal killed humanely? Does the fruit look fresh and sweet to eat? I want to make sure that the places I buy food from are reputable and care not only about its customers but where they are sourcing their products from.
To minimise the likelihood of my family eating dubious meat products, I’ll incorporate more leafy greens and whole foods into our meals and eat less processed foods. I’ll also visit my local butcher more often as opposed to my local supermarket.
This doesn’t mean that you won’t catch me making hot-dogs for the kids. It doesn’t mean that you won’t catch me tucking into what some may consider a “dirty” meal. What it does mean is that I love food and to deny myself the tasty things in life very once in a while is to not live life to the full.
I’ve always enjoyed cycling. I had bicycle accident many years ago and for a while I couldn’t face getting on one.
Last year though, daddy gave me a bike for my birthday and whilst I took advantage of the summer warmth and went out there feeling the wind through my hair, I didn’t use the bike as much as I could have. This will change this year.
I’ll also try Zumba on my Wii console again (it’s great!) and have Alex join me just like the boys used to when they were little.
And lastly, the the gym itself. I’ve also gained a reputation at my local gym for only turning up between February and August to get fit and toned for a holiday abroad but I intend to show them that this gal can do more!
Learn a new language
I am fluent in both Portuguese and English and have a bit of understanding towards French and Spanish but I feel as if I need a new challenging language. I miss what it’s like to immerse yourself into a new language and not knowing if and what I’m uttering is correct. I’m not certain as to what this language will be but stay tuned for an announcement soon!
Be more patient
I feel this is something that we all need to work on more. Living in a fast-paced world means that we want things now and therefore have no time for anything that requires our attention for more than ten minutes. In fact, we tend to be more patient with those we don’t know than those we do and I want to change that.
St. Augustine is said to have said that:
“Patience is the companion of wisdom.”
I choose to be patient because to be patient and being patient leads to understanding what is being required of me, thus allowing me to work out the best way to deal with a situation. Ok, here’s another quote for you:
“Be silent or your tongue will make you deaf.”
The above is often said by my father-in-law. I believe it goes hand in had with St Augustine’s quote, don’t you? I’m not looking for Nirvana but I do hope that I can be more patient with myself and others around me.
It’s true, I need to! As of this moment I blog about once every couple of months but this will change. I’ll be coming at you guys with more posts about things that matter to me and hopefully inspire you. My goal is to blog twice a week and use this blogging time to engage with other bloggers and find out what’s out there.
Yes, I’ve got the travelling bug and my feet are itching to get out there. I want to visit new places and revisit those that left a mark on me.
I also want to take Alex on a child-friendly trip; something like Disneyland Paris or Cebeebies Land. I read a review from a mum blogger here on WordPress and was completely sold on the idea so I’ll get planning and convincing daddy that what he wants is to stay at the CBeebies hotel and go on the character rides!
What about you? What changes will you be making this year?
